CHICAGO (AP) — The city of Chicago is planning a homecoming parade for the Jackie Robinson West All Stars team this week.
In a news release, Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the event will be on Wednesday and details will follow. The parade was announced ahead of Sunday’s Little League World Series championship game where South Korea won 8-4 over Chicago.
Emanuel says the excitement surrounding the team is palpable in every neighborhood in the city. The team is made up of 11 and 12-year-olds from the city’s South Side.
Hundreds of supporters attended watch parties downtown and in city neighborhoods over the weekend. Emanuel and Gov. Pat Quinn were among those who attended a South Side party on Sunday.
International teams have won the last three and four of the last five titles.
