NewsOne reported Tuesday that the Supreme Court decided 6-2 to support a ban on affirmative action in Michigan. Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina judge on the Court, was one of the two votes in support of maintaining the policy in the state and delivered a powerful response. Well, Wednesday, “NewsOne Now’s” Roland Martin set out to learn more about what the ruling means for considerations of race in the admissions process.

He interviewed Sherrilyn Ifill, the seventh President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, who championed Justice Sotomayor’s defense of affirmative action. Listen to Ifill’s explanation of the process that led to the ruling and how she says Sotomayor “stepped into the shoes of Thurgood Marshall.”

Be sure to listen to “NewsOne Now” with Roland Martin, weekdays at 7 a.m. EST and watch at 9 a.m. EST on TV One.
