CHICAGO – DuSable Museum of African American History will present this weekend Whoopi Goldberg’s sold out directorial debut “I Got Somethin’ To Tell You.”
The documentary feature showcases comedy pioneer Moms Mabley, often referred to as “the funniest woman in the world.”
Mabley comes to life again as the feature showcases her talent and pays homage to a woman whose relevance still resonates today.
Mabley was a role model for Goldberg, who currently is a co-host on the daytime TV show “The View.” Goldberg is paying tribute to her comedic mentor and is joined by other comedians, including Bill Cosby, Kathy Griffin and Eddie Murphy.
It is through archival footage and interviews with those comic legends and others that Goldberg crafts a complex portrait of Mabley, whose hilarious routines helped break down social, political and gender stereotypes. The film includes a peek into Mabley’s lesbian lifestyle and uncovers other little known details from the beloved performer’s life. Reeling’s presentation at the DuSable Museum will include a specially taped message from Whoopi Goldberg.
