State lawmakers have proposed a bill that would allow certain licensed bars to serve alcohol until 4 a.m.
Free Press notes:
The proposed bill comes three years after the Legislature passed a measure allowing bars and stores to sell alcohol before noon on Sunday. Since that law went into effect, $4,124,320 in additional permit fees has been generated by bars and stores looking to sell before noon
85 percent of that money would go to local police departments, 10 percent would go to the Liquor Control Commission and five percent to the local unit of government.
The bill, proposed by Sen. Virgil Smith of Detroit, is in the beginning stages and may be up for a vote by the end of this year.
