Well, Lauryn Hill has finally checked into prison today, according to TMZ[1].

The former Fugees star was booked into the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Conn., around 11:45 a.m. It is a minimum security facility and Hill will live in barracks-type housing. According to the entertainment news site, Hill will be housed with the general population.

As NewsOne previously reported[4], Hill pleaded guilty to three charges of failing to pay $1.8 million for three tax years from 2005 to 2007. If her tax woes weren’t enough, the Grammy Award-winning singer was sued by her landlord after she allegedly stop paying rent on her New Jersey home.

In an effort to avoid jail time, Hill tried to convince a judge[6] that she could pay off her debts faster if she were allowed to record music and perform; it didn’t work.

During her sentencing in May, Hill explained that she failed to pay her taxes and dropped out of the entertainment business to protect herself and her family[7]. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sandra Moser brushed off the entertainer’s remarks, chalking them up as a “parade of excuses.”

After Hill is released from prison, she will be on probation for a year. The first three months will be under home confinement.
