At least nine people were injured and four others were killed, including a woman police say was in the wrong place at the wrong time, during a violent night in Chicago.
Police said the 56-year-old woman was apparently caught in gang crossfire when she was gunned down at about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of East 79th Street.

The woman was shot in the head while standing on the sidewalk, police said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead. Police said nearby officers heard the shots and found the woman lying on the ground. Witnesses said she was hit when shooting broke out around her.
Police are still looking for the shooter.

In another fatal incident, a man was sitting near some railroad tracks in the 7500 block of South Carpenter Street when he was shot to death around 6:48 p.m.
Nine others were wounded in shootings since Wednesday afternoon. Four people were struck, the youngest believed to be 15 years old, at around 5:45 p.m. in the 300 block of East 47th Street in Bronzeville while standing outside a cellphone store. Someone shot at them from a car. The four victims are expected to recover.
