Detroit’s NAACP has officially announced that U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi will serve as key note speaker at the 58th annual Fight for Freedom Fund dinner.
As the House Democratic leader, Pelosi has served for twenty five years. She is the first female Speaker of the House, and represents the San Francisco district.
President of Detroit’s NAACP branch, Rev. Wendell Anthony stated he eagerly anticipates Pelosi’s address, especially considering the city’s current state of affairs.
“She brings a national framework. She brings a deep understanding of how government should work. She brings a constitutional understanding of how government should work… so we are very pleased that she is coming”, said Rev. Anthony.
Last night’s key note speaker was Attorney General Eric Holder. Past speakers include civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., and former U.S. President Bill Clinton.
The annual event will be held on Sunday, April 28 at 5 p.m. at Detroit’s Cobo Hall. The largest sit-down dinner in the country expects at least 10,000 to be in attendance. It’s theme will be “Freedom Must Never be Defaulted, It Must Forever Be Exalted”.
