After seeing the controversial hit film Lincoln a university profesosr decided to do some digging in Mississippi’s record on the ratification of the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery, and what he found was astounding. The state had not fully ratified the 13th Amendment. The legislature voted aginsti it in 1865, and when the issue was revisited in 1995 the legislature agreed to the ratification, but failed to complete the process. On Feb. 7, 2013 Mississippi has officially ratified the 13th Amendment to the Constitution after fixing the clerical error that delayed the process.
