(AP) — Chicago State University plans to improve support services and award more scholarships to its students with the help of hundreds of thousands of dollars in new donations.
University officials say the school received two endowments this year totaling $300,000.
The funds were provided by an anonymous donor and the Emil Jones Youth Foundation.
University officials say that a portion of the funds will go toward scholarships and loans for some students majoring in science, technology, engineering and math disciplines.
University officials say donations are critical to their survival in an environment of cuts in federal and state funding for both students and public institutions.
