Johnson Publishing Co. LLC, the publisher of Ebony and Jet magazines, has named Cheryl Mayberry McKissack to chief operating officer, a newly created post at the Chicago-based company, reported Crain’s Chicago Business.
Ms. McKissack, 57, joined the company Jan. 1 after providing consulting services for Johnson on digital strategy over the past 18 months, the company said in a statement. She comes to Johnson from the Chicago online research, marketing and digital consulting firm Nia Enterprises LLC, which she founded in 2000 and has led as CEO.
“She has a proven track record in transforming companies through strategic innovation and in using technology to help create growth opportunities,” Johnson CEO Desiree Rogers said in the statement.
Ms. Rogers, who became CEO in 2010, has been spearheading changes at the company, including shifting the publisher to a new downtown headquarters and redesigning its publications, as she tries to increase profitability.
