CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Teachers Union says its members will vote Oct. 2, on a deal with the city’s school district that was reached after a seven-day strike.

Union financial secretary Kristine Mayle said Thursday that packets of information, including the new contract and ballots, should arrive in schools Sept. 28.

Mayle says union rules require any contract must be approved within 10 days of the suspension of a strike. She says that means all union members must vote sometime on Oct. 2.

Mayle says it may take up to two days to tally all votes. A simple majority of those who vote is required for approval.

The walkout, the first in Chicago in 25 years, shut down the nation’s third-largest school district just days after 350,000 students returned from summer vacation.
