The musical stars Shaheerah Farrakhan as Dorothy; J. Thurman as Brave-Heart the Lion, Uneq’ka McNeal as Scarecrow and Just Flo as Tinman. Others participating include the Chicago Style Steppers, Nyfeesha Miller as Miss One and her Munchkins, the yellow Brick Road Dancers, aziza Lisa as South-side good Witch ‘Glinda’ & Samolta Acklin as the Wicked Witch of the West-side ‘Evilene’, The Worlds Performance Drill Team, and Terry Bishop as The Wiz.

THE CHICAGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, 220 S. Michigan Ave., will feature Jaap van Zweden conductor as music director and David McGill as bassoon soloist at 8 p.m. The program consist of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1; Stucky’s Rhapsodies for Orchestra and Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto. DATE???

African-American soprano Nicole Cabell sings the title role of Pamino in Lyric Opera’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflote) at the Civic Opera, 20 N. Wacker Dr., at the Dec. 10 matinee. The show continues Jan. 4, 6, 9, 11, 14 and matinees on Jan. 20 and 22.

CHICAGO’S FRESHMEN COMEDY TROUPE will be hosting a media night at the famous Jokes and Notes, 4641 S. King Dr., Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. and will intrigue one’s funny bones with laughs.

JENNIFER HOLLIDAY WITH WALT WHITMAN’S Soul concert at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Dr., Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

THE PREMIERE OF CHICAGO WOMEN OF SONG highlights Deeply Rooted’s 15th Anniversary Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. at the Harris Music and Dance Theater, 509 E. Randolph Dr.
