SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Former NFL player Corwin Brown is scheduled to face a judge on charges he struck his wife and held her against her will in their northern Indiana home, leading to a seven-hour standoff with police.

Brown’s initial court hearing is set for Wednesday morning in South Bend on charges of confinement and domestic battery.

Defense attorney Mike Tuszynski asked for a delay of the hearing in September, telling a judge that the former Notre Dame defensive coordinator was undergoing psychological testing. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Ken Cotter said Brown’s wife requested the testing.

Brown’s family has said they believe he may suffer from the same type of brain trauma as Dave Duerson, the former Chicago Bears star who committed suicide in February.
