Family, friends and Ald. Roderick Sawyer (6th) held a vigil Monday in Cole Park in the Chatham neighborhood honoring the life of slain Simeon basketball star Ben “Benji” Wilson.

Family, friends and Ald. Roderick Sawyer (6th) held a vigil Monday in Cole Park in the Chatham neighborhood honoring the life of slain Simeon basketball star Ben “Benji” Wilson.

Wilson was gunned down Nov. 21, 1984, days after receiving news he earned a full scholarship to the University of Illinois.

Wilson led Simeon to a state title that year and was named the top player in the nation.
