CHICAGO (AP) — Between events like deadly tornadoes around the country and the blizzard that buried Chicago in snow in February, Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the city will step up its planning for severe weather. The mayor toured the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications on Thursday. He told reporters that it is clear that what was once thought of as abnormal weather is becoming normal. And he says the city has to plan for that. Emanuel says he’ll step up training exercises to make sure that firefighters, police officers and other city workers are prepared to handle extreme weather and that all the city departments act in concert.
