Three students from Woodlawn Community school on the South Side recently walked away with more than $200 in cash and prizes as part of the Save That Penny For a Sunny Day Prosperity Play.

X’ernona Woods, author of Save That Penny For a Sunny Day, congratulated fourth-graders Kyvry Dyson, Jayla Ford and Janiya Lockridge on their essays about financial literacy for children. In addition to cash prizes, each received a copy of the book.

The play showcased the fundamentals to build generational wealth starting at an early age. The students learned the four things to do with money, the difference between the bulls and bear market, among other financial matters.

“The goal is to educated and inspire a nation of youth to lead a life of prosperity and service to all communities abroad,” said Woods.

More than 250 students at the school received $25 savings certificates provided by Marquette Bank. Several $25 McDonald’s gift cards were also awarded.
