CHICAGO (AP) — Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan says he’s been disturbed by U.S. involvement in Libya and feels compelled to deliver a words of warning.

Farrakhan has planned a Thursday news conference at Mosque Maryam to discuss his views and advice for President Barack Obama. The mosque on Chicago’s South Side is the movement’s headquarters.

Farrakhan has visited Libya and has long considered Col. Moammar Gadhafi a friend. In the past, Farrakhan has said military involvement would have major repercussions for the United States.

Farrakhan says he watched Obama’s speech on Libya this week with great concern.

The president defended U.S. military involvement, saying the U.S. has intervened in Libya to prevent a slaughter of civilians. But he ruled out targeting Gadhafi militarily.
