Regina Taylor’s ‘Trinity River Plays’ come to Goodman Theatre

Goodman Theatre artistic associate, Regina Taylor, introduces her most recently critically acclaimed dramas “The Trinity River Plays” that officially opens January 24.

Goodman Theatre artistic associate, Regina Taylor, introduces her most recently critically acclaimed dramas “The Trinity River Plays” that officially opens January 24 at 7 p.m. with Ethan McSweeny directing. Taylor’s explores transformative moments in the life of Iris Spears and her matriarchal Texas family and the intricacies of her relationship with her mother. The actresses consist of Karan Aldridge as Iris, and Penny Johnson Jerald as her protective mother, Rose. Tickets are $25 – $78.

“THE IDEAL HUSBAND” will open at Theater 47 sponsored by John Ruffin at the Harold Washington Cultural Center, 4701 S. King Dr. The stars are Carl Payne and Shirley Murdock, with Terrell Carter, Larsha Hillard, Richard Gallon, Sandy Redd and Mike Storm playing in supporting roles. Opening night tickets, Friday, are $20.

TIME-LINE THEATRE COMPANY, 615 W. Wellington Ave., presents the Chicago premiere of “In Darfur” by Winter Miller through March 20. The cast includes Tyla Abercrumbie, Kelli Simpkins, Gregory Isaac, Eddie Jordan III, Mildred Marie Langford, Brian Alwyn Newland and Ebony Wimbs. The story concerns the horrors of genocide.

HYDE PARK JAZZ SOCIETY – ROOM 43 at 1043 E. 43rd St. presents Maggie Brown singing songs of Dinah Washington, Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

ONE TIME ENTERTAINMENT GROUP performs Friday at 7 p.m. at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Morgan Park, 11401 S. Vincennes Ave. Featured comedians are BLT, ILL Will and Patrick Hudson, hosted by Lady Lunchabell. Tickets are $10.
