MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Montgomery organizations have planned a week of events to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the 1955 bus boycott that played a key role in the civil rights movement. Events range from a theatrical production to panel discussions that include civil rights legends like entertainer Harry Belafonte and Martin Luther King III, son of slain leader Martin Luther King Jr. Other participants include King’s close advisers U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Georgia and former U.S. Ambassador Andrew Young, as well as baseball legend Hank Aaron. King launched the historic yearlong Montgomery Bus Boycott after Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
