PEORIA, Ill. — Senior guard Patrick Miller scored 23 points to lead Chicago Hales Franciscan past Breese Central 80-70 to capture third place at the boys Class 2A state tournament . Miller, a first-team Associated Press All-Stater, also led the Spartans in rebounds with eight, and assists with six in the Saturday game at Carver Arena. Breese was led by 6-7 forward David Wiegmann’s 32 points, while teammates Brandon Book added 23 and center Garrett Gaffner scored 10 and grabbed 14 rebounds. Chicago grabbed the lead seconds after the opening tip and never relinquished it. The Spartans led by as many as 14 points late in the third quarter. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
