Dear Chat Daddy,
I am a 32-year-old female who has been dating a guy for three months now. He is 39 years old, employed and I thought that he was outgoing. Here is the problem: when we first met, he showed himself to be very talkative and quite flirtatious until about a month ago. Now he only communicates with me via text messages. He even does it when we are together because he has nothing to say. Chat Daddy, it is like pulling teeth because he does everything via text messaging. I am sick of this being the only form of conversation we have. Please advise!
-Truly Lacking The Gift Of Verbal Gab
Dear Truly Lacking The Gift Of Verbal Gab,
I’m sure his lack of verbal communication has caught you totally by surprise because there is nothing like a great communicator when you are in a relationship. In your process of getting to know him, did you find him to be stuck on himself, arrogant, self-absorbed, self-centered or think he’s God’s gift to women? Those types of behaviors are definitely a sign of him not being a good communicator. Or, perhaps he has become uninterested in you. Like it or not, texting has become the new way of communication for most people because it requires no formal form of talking! I am going to give him the benefit of doubt. Maybe he is nervous and not sure what to say to you. Tell him that his texting is driving you crazy and that you could use more verbal conversation. Here’s to him understanding that the only true way to one’s heart is to speak from the heart. Be encouraged.
