Kirk Franklin was in Chicago recently in search of Sunday’s best!

The iconic gospel singer was attending auditions in preparation for the second season of Black Entertainment Television’s popular gospel music version of American Idol. Some 3,500 people––some seasoned vocalists, others new-found singers––all convinced that they were worthy to hold the title of Sunday’s Best, stood in lines stretching around the Hyatt Chicago hotel. Franklin, owner of Fo Yo Soul Records, praised last year’s Best winner, Crystal Aikens and first-runner up, Sharri Addison. Chicago home talent, Addison, landed a recording contract on Zomba Gospel. Her self-titled project was released earlier this month. The dynamic sister duo, Mary Mary, and Benjamin “Bebe” Winans will serve as judges for the show again this season, which begins March 8.

Congrats to some former members of Kirk Franklin and the Family. Dallas/Ft. Worth natives David and Tamela Mann are the new stars of Tyler Perry’s stage play-turned-sitcom, Meet the Browns. The show launched on the TBS network earlier this month.

Urgent prayers are needed for Rev. Timothy Wright who has taken a turn for the worst.

Last year, Wright, his wife and one of his grandsons were involved in a head-on collision on a Pennsylvania highway. Mrs. Wright and their grandson died as a result. Pastor Wright was left impaired. His family is requesting your earnest prayers because the singer and pastor has been unresponsive for several days. Wright was moved from the Kessler Institute where he was receiving therapy and rehabilitation to a hospital. The godfather of gospel was recently honored in a musical to help raise funds for his rehabilitation. Kirk Franklin gave a touching tribute during the Stellar Awards taped in Nashville. The show will air this month.
