The man accused in the triple slaying of singer/actress Jennifer Hudson’s family pleaded not guilty Tuesday. William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia Hudson, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of home invasion in the Oct. 24 shooting deaths of the sisters’ mother Darnell Donerson, 57; brother Jason Hudson, 29; and Julia’s 7-year-old son, Julian King. Balfour, 27, maintained his innocence and entered his plea at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse while his family watched from the courtroom’s galley. He is jailed without bond and remains in the custody of the Illinois Dept. of Corrections where he is being held for a parole violation. His attorney, Joshua Kutnick, requested that Balfour be transferred to the Cook County Jail so he could have “easier access” to his client. Balfour’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 27. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
